Why In the everloving would a father knowingly agree to arrange to have his daughter marry the man that raped her?! Though her brothers tricked the people of that community and slaughtered the men, took captive the women and children, and looted the goods and livestock of the community...at least THEIR heart was in the right place! The father here was concerned about diplomacy and building relationships (thru relations apparently) more so than the well being of his own flesh and blood. This story has played out before biblically when Lot offered his virgin daughters to a sexually thirsty male mob in front of his house in order to spare the purity of his newfound guests. It's these kinds of accounts in the old testament that make my "things to ask Jesus about in heaven" list for sure.
